Shanique Taliaferro
BWNJ FOUNDER & CEO
Shanique Taliaferro, a lifelong resident of Trenton, NJ, is a dedicated community advocate and outreach specialist with a deep passion for underserved communities, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment. Her career has been driven by a heartfelt desire to make a positive impact and leave a legacy her family can be proud of. After founding Repairers of the Breach, a nonprofit organization focused on addressing societal disparities and aiding marginalized communities, Shanique was heartbroken when it had to dissolve during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this setback only strengthened her resolve to continue her advocacy work. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by Black women, she channeled her efforts into creating BWNJ, a community designed to uplift and empower Black women in New Jersey. Starting with a Facebook group, Shanique initially did not expect the overwhelming response and rapid growth that followed. Inspired by the community's enthusiastic support, she quickly realized that her idea was destined for a larger purpose. This realization fueled her decision to expand BWNJ into a comprehensive platform that now boasts over 10,000 online members. Under her leadership, BWNJ serves as a dynamic hub for leveraging resources, sharing valuable information, hosting empowerment sessions, organizing social events, and facilitating networking opportunities. Currently pursuing higher education, Shanique is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and skills to better serve her community and position herself as a respected leader and change-maker. Her future plans for BWNJ include expanding its reach and impact, aspiring to become a leading organization that empowers Black women nationwide.
