Statewide Urgent Meeting

Last week, Black Women New Jersey held a powerful Urgent Statewide Call that brought together women and leaders from across the state to discuss the pressing issues we are facing right now.

With over 500 RSVPs and nearly 300 women on the call, the energy was incredible. We heard from Mayor Ras Baraka, Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, Assemblywoman Shanique Speight, Councilwoman Crystal Feliciano, and others who challenged and encouraged us to mobilize, organize, and make our voices heard.

We talked about the impact of job layoffs, with over 300,000 Black women affected, and the uncertainty many families are feeling — especially with the possibility of a government shutdown looming. These are not just Black issues, they are universal issues, and they affect everyone.

This call was our fire drill, a practice run to ensure we are prepared, informed, and ready to take action when challenges arise. It was also a moment of solidarity, showing that when we come together, our collective strength can move mountains.

On Monday, September 29 at 7:30 PM (EST), we’re doing it again — and this time, we’re building on that momentum. You never know who will speak this week, but one thing is certain:

We must stand together, stay ready, and keep holding the line for New Jersey.
